PPP:

Changing project.
I decided that to persue pottery in this field wouldn't fulfil the site collaborative brief as i wasn't engaged enough with init and don't feel its what i should be doing to fulfil my degree.
Instead i found a new place, The woods. I decided that it would still be interesting to look at cafes and restaurants but perhaps using them in a way that im interested, that would be the graphic design of the cafes and restraints. 
I went to the forest to decide how I could influence the space and found the sign posts i felt they were very bland and out of character although they tried to fit in with the forest they wernt interesting and didn't reflect the local areas they were sign posting at all.
I decided it would be fun to re signpost the woods in a way that related to each restraint and cafe in the places sign posted to say the distance. I also thought it was an interesting idea that we recognise places but what food places are there and can even be used as meeting places.
I also wanted to include the idea of crockery from the beginning of my project and thought it was an interesting alternative way of sign posting.

while traveling through the woods i came across alot of glass bottles, i collected a few.

When i got back i peeled off the labels and did a little experiment trying to funnel white emolsion into them how ever this did not work so instead i got some white acrylics and mix them with the smallest bit of water i swirled the mixture around and it turned the inside of the bottle white i did this with a couple colours the colours that came out looked simular to the colours on the "sea side ice cream" sign so i have decided to create some signs with diffrent flouvered ice creams on directing you to the sea side ice cream pallas

This photo shows the urbanisation around the ridge and how it has become so built up this is a small narrow bit of wood between several different housing areas.

Current sign posts in Wood House ridge, They are very plain and pretty standard as to fit in with the surroundings and direct.

This is why i feel it would be interesting to create something that plays on the idea of the woods.
I really like the idea of looking at the modern day picnic and how people no longer go to the woods to have a picnic.

The main places i have looked at are in the hyde park, Woodhouse and Headingely areas.

Distances between restraunts and Woodhouse Ridge/ Batty woods:

Today i have cycled from various restraunts, pubs and bars to batty woods measuring the distance with an iphone app call map my journey, i have taken the distances and converted them into walking distances. I like the idea of measuring exercise in time.



The Libarary pub is 0.6 mi and a 12 minute walk

Oranaise morrocon restraint is 0.4mi a 9 minute walk

  Seaside ice cream parlour- 0.6mi 12minute walk traditional seaside font and large picture of a ice cream

Crispy Fish and chips - 0.5mi 10 minute walk picture of a fish with the Fair ground seaside writing writting on it?


Bankok cafe- 0.5 mi 10 minute walk- More graphiti type font base, Thai food thai menu

LS6 cafe/The Clock Cafe- 0.5mi 10 minute walk- Colourful, furiniture, white font on black back ground, take the colours from the furniture s a background and put the white ls6 writing in bottom corner? 

Hyde Park pub - 0.4 mi 9 minute walk -standard pub type fonts, chalk board fonts- pints

After speaking to Andy in ceramic today it would appear throwing a plate is a lot harder than it looks. Also Due to it being closer and closer to dead lines Andy said its not too likely that the kiln will be free. Especially for lazer tran as you need to have a slow long change in temperature.
He has got a cheaper version that you don't need a kiln for and can be printed onto inject printer.
How ever this mean i will not get to use the process i originally wanted but its an easier way to get the same outcome.
I plan to buy some plates.

MASH SIGN POST

M*A*S*H was a media franchise, Semi Biographical of Richard Hocker. Its loosely based on a mobile army service hospital in the Korean war. I found this image taken from the set of the tv show and really like the collaboration of different fonts directions and distances. Its simple but effective. I've seen a few sign posts like this and would be interested to see more. Its what my ideas for this project would be based on.
